Stump Grinding Services
A leftover stump is a tripping hazard, it is a pain to mow around, and over time it turns into a home for carpenter ants. We grind stumps below grade so you can get the spot back. Mow right over it, replant grass, or put in a new bed. Any size, and we can reach backyards most rental machines cannot.
Grind it or rent a machine?
You can rent a stump grinder for a day, but DIY machines are small, the work is hard and dusty, and large or root-flared stumps often defeat them. For a single small stump in an open yard, a rental might do. For anything bigger, backyard access, or several stumps, hiring a crew with a commercial grinder is faster, safer, and usually cheaper once you add up the rental, fuel, and your weekend.
What to expect
- Step 1
Check size and access
We measure the stump and the path to it. Our equipment fits through gates and into backyards that big machines cannot.
- Step 2
Grind below grade
We grind the stump four to eight inches below the soil line so you can plant grass or mow right over it.
- Step 3
Handle the grindings
We rake the grindings back into the hole or haul them off, your choice. They make decent mulch too.
- Step 4
Multiple stumps, better price
Got several? We discount additional stumps done on the same visit.
Done right, cleaned up, done
- Grinding well below grade for replanting
- Tight-access equipment for backyards

Stump Grinding: common questions
Is it cheaper to grind a stump or rent a machine?
For one small stump in an open yard, a rental can be cheaper. Once you have a big stump, a backyard the machine cannot get into, or more than one stump to deal with, hiring us usually costs less once you add up the day rate, the fuel, and the work itself. The result is cleaner too.
How deep do you grind?
We grind roughly four to eight inches below grade, deep enough to plant grass or mow over the spot. If you plan to build there or put in a new tree, let us know and we can go deeper.
What happens to the wood chips?
We can rake the grindings back into the hole to settle, use them as mulch elsewhere on the property, or haul them away entirely. Your call.
